FAQ’s

Q: What shall I bring for their stay?

A: We must see proof of vaccination to allow your dogs into the kennel. These vaccinations should cover Distemper, Hepatitis and Parvo. You may also wish to get your pooch vaccinated against rabies and Kennel Cough but this is optional.

PLEASE NOTE: Kennel cough vaccines are live vaccines and we cannot accept dogs into the kennels within 2 weeks of receiving the vaccination.

You can also bring your doggos favourite toy and bed if wish so they have something familiar with them in the kennel but these are left at your own risk! We also provide our own bedding should you wish to leave this at home.

You may also bring your own food should you wish but we ask that you provide food in the correct portion sizes for each meal as we have limited storage space for large bags of kibble. We have fridge and freezer facilities should you wish to bring anything perishable. We provide Bakers dry kibble if you do not bring your own.

For medication and special dietary requirements, please see below.

Q: My pet has never been in boarding kennels before. Will s/he be alright?

A: First timers normally get use to the routine at the Hylton very quickly. Our buddies watch all newcomers very closely, to ensure they are eating and contented. Worried how your pet will adapt to boarding? We recommend a trial day stay, building up to short overnight stays – please see details on our boarding page. Boarding page link!

Q: How old does my puppy have to be to board?

A: Try not to board your pet prior to 6 months old. However sometimes in certain circumstances it is necessary for us to make special provision for younger dogs who may still be in the process of settling into their new home and learning toilet training etc. This might disrupt home routine and training at an important stage of their training development.

Q: I adopted an adult dog a couple of months ago. When will s/he be ready to board at the Hylton?

A: Preferably 4- 6 months is adequate to settle in for a re-homed pet. Again you might want to consider a trail stay. Please see our boarding page for details. Boarding page link!

Q: How much exercise will my dog have whilst boarding?

A: All our guests are exercised at least twice daily in our own secure and safe park, which is immediately adjacent to the bedroom blocks, making a very secure area for your pets to explore and have fun. Elderly dogs can take just a short stroll if that is what they prefer. Extra exercise options available on check in – ask a staff member to discuss these.

Q: My pet has special food and/or is on medication. Can I be sure s/he will get the food s/he likes and be given his/her pills?

A: All special dietary and medical needs are noted from the boarding form you fill out and our buddies make sure these are administered daily, or as specified. Please bring special diets or medication with your pet, both clearly labelled. Medication should be in veterinary dispensed containers with your pet’s name on it.

Q: What if my pet is taken ill while s/he is staying with you?

A: In the unlikely event of illness, your pet will receive immediate veterinary attention. We will also liaise with your own vet for matters of ongoing treatment.

Q: Will my pet be safe at Hylton?

A: The bedroom and patio blocks have security gates and these are locked at all times and entry to the premises is only allowed with a member of staff. The complex is manned 24/7, 365 days a year, it is purpose built, with the health and safety of our guests and staff in mind.

Q: My pet loves attention. Will s/he be stroked and played with while boarding at Hylton?

A: All our guests have lots of human contact by our buddies while they are staying with us. We are here to make sure your pet has fun, while they are on holiday with us while in our care.

Q: Do you offer collection or delivery?

A: No. Why not try a pet taxi. They offer a reliable and safe service and have the correct insurance to transport your pets.

Q: What if my dog is anxious or aggressive around new people/environments?

A: We have systems in place to deal with dogs who may need time warming up to us. Please refer to our card system information here. Where dogs are more aggressive with other dogs, we aim to place them as close to the field as possible and away from other kennels so they have the space they need. Please keep in mind this is not always possible during busy periods. We will only socialise dogs with your permission and all of our fields are safe and secure meaning all dogs can explore and play safely alone or in groups.

We look forward to welcoming your pet and treating them to
an enjoyable doggy pampering experience.
