The Kitchen Refurbishment 2019

The Hylton is continually striving to improve and develop the operation, and trying to make it more efficient, keeping the standards as high as possible. The kitchen is obviously the heart of the kennels and is a very busy area, there have been problems with congestion, staff coming and going and not enough space at times to accommodate everything, and it was in need of an upgrade.

Recently this area has totally been redesigned and refurbished, to make the kitchen operation more efficient and user friendly, to support the staff in the day to day tasks. There are now designated areas for everything. Food, Equipment, each dog has their own pigeon hole which takes the size of a supermarket shopping bag for their own belongings. This has streamlined the operation, and has improved the kitchen area immensely….

The kennel staff are delighted with the new working conditions.

Just after the New Year Bank Holiday work commenced on a total kitchen revamp.
Every single tile was stripped from the wall.
The sinks, units, racking and cupboards were all scrapped along with the washing machine and dryer.

Out with the old. In with the new.

The new kitchen has floor to ceiling tiles.
All new tables and sinks are of stainless steel construction, all of which are free standing to allow access behind and below for cleaning.
All new wall units providing much needed storage for redundant feed bowls, cooking equipment and other necessary accessories.
A larger chest freezer gives growing capacity to store food frozen.
A brand new storage facility, called the Food Rack giving enough space for each dog to have one large supermarket shopping bag for its’s own food if required + toys and treats.

Please, put daily portions of food into small plastic bags, thank you
NB. Please do not bring boxes or large food bags as they will be refused.

Laundry

Part of the kitchen houses our new bank of washing machines and dryers.

  • Laundry is ongoing daily.
  • Soiled bedding is dealt with immediately.
  • If you bring your dogs bedding with you don’t be surprised to find it either washed or going through the cleansing process
    when you collect your dog.

  • One large room is given over completely just for the storage of clean bedding ready for use in the kennels so don’t worry because there is always plenty of clean bedding available to keep your pet warm and comfortable.

A Big Thank You from Paul

The new Kitchen facility makes the daily routines pleasurable for the staff
as well as much easier to perform to our exacting standards.

My thanks go to them all for the diligent manner in which they work day in day out for every day of the year.

Their mission is not easy!

Reaching for the Stars 2019

The Hylton ticked all the right boxes during our recent appraisal for STAR RATING by the Licencing Authorities, however because our sleeping area fell approximately 50 square centimetres below the new standard, introduced 2018, we are ineligible to gain a 4 or 5 star rating.

The Goal Posts Moved!

We are very proud of our kennels. The sleeping area in our kennels built in 2006 are approximately 40 square centimeters bigger than the standard required in those days. We believe the new size set by DEFRA and the Environmental Agency to be very unfair to existing establishments like ours as they changed the GOAL POSTS.

We are however able to display a photo of their tick box document.

Latest Staff News

Thank you Sam & Bon Voyage.

Sam Maidment arrived in the Hylton’s doorstep in August 2011.
He was just 16 years old and eager to work at the kennels weekends.

From the first day I met him I was impressed by his enthusiasm and perseverance.
With a cheeky grin and a sunny disposition. Sam soon made his mark around the place.
He told me on day one of his ambition to become a Vet.

Roll the clock on 7 years.

The photograph, taken in August 2018, shows me shaking hands with Sam after he finished working his last day at the
Kennels. Sadly for us Sam will not be returning to earn his University beer money in 2019, but it is for the best of all reasons because next summer Sam will become a fully qualified vet.

Well done Sam, all at the kennels wish you the very best of luck for the future in your chosen career, especially me.
I guess it’ll be me accepting advice from you from now on.

Hylton Hound Hotel Boarding Kennels News

We asked a couple of our recent guests, to say in their own words what
their personnel experience of boarding their beloved pets here at the Hylton.
Below is what they had to say!

Vinnie and George’s Story

I was very apprehensive about putting Vinnie and George into kennels, especially Vinnie. Vinnie is 3 years old and has severe separation anxiety and has never been left with anyone other than friends and family. I initially met Katie at Hylton Hounds where she also met Vinnie and George; she let them run on the field, and showed me around the site, where I saw some of the gorgeous dogs in their care, as well as the individual kennels where they’d be staying.

She was thorough and detailed and explained what happens on a normal day to day basis and she stressed that I could call or text at any time for an update. Katie was friendly, professional, and extremely pleasant and we got on with each other immediately.

She put my mind at rest as she explained they offer a day care service and a ‘3 night trial’. I took advantage of both the day care and later on, the 3 night trial and I’ve never looked back.

The feedback from Katie, Sarah, and Luke is always positive after having my dogs in their care and they love looking after Vinnie and George. Best of all, Vinnie and George absolutely love it there and I can tell, when I collect them, they are clean, happy and healthy. Vinnie is extremely sociable and he loves playing with other dogs there!

They have a wonderful sized field where the dogs can run about and they have daily walks on there, sometimes up to 4 times a day! George is only 6 months old and therefore, socialisation is key and I love that he gets to meet new people and dogs each time he goes.

The team are extremely flexible and will look to accommodate your dogs’ individual needs for e.g., my dogs are raw fed and they’re fed at the times I request. The staff are welcoming and friendly and they look after my dogs as if they’re their own.

Sarah especially loves seeing George getting bigger and bigger each time he arrives and I know I can simply text Sarah asking how they are and she replies without hesitation. I love dropping them off, as I know they will be cared for and looked after and I don’t have to worry about them for a second.

They also have an on-site grooming salon which I have also used and will use again in the future.

I would highly recommend Hylton Hounds, especially to nervous first timers like myself and will continue to use them in the future. It doesn’t feel like I’m taking them to kennels, it feels like they’re staying with family and that’s more than I could ask for!

Pluto and Pebbles Story

We all love our pets and it is so important when we are away on holiday that we have a suitable and reliable kennels we can put them into. Hylton Hound Hotel Boarding Kennels comes under that category.

The staff are superb and always give my dogs a lovely welcome on every visit for the past six years at least. The owner Paul does a good job too keeping all in order for our furry friends.

My two King Charles Spaniels love the place. They are so well looked after and have five acres around the kennels which is so well fenced off to keep them secure while they have a good play around with the other dogs.

If sickness occurs which has happened on a few occasions in the past they are quickly whisked to the Vets by Sarah or other members of Staff for attention and that security for my two little friends is a great security for me and they are also covered by the Kennels Insurance when this happens and for 72 hours after they leave should anything unforeseen happen.

I can highly recommend Hylton Hound Kennels and have done so to my friends in the past. I go on holiday with peace of mind and they love the place. They can’t wait to run down the kennels area to get started on the barking.

It’s Hylton Hound Kennels for me and at this stage it is Pebbles and Pluto’s second home sharing a kennel all the time on every occasion and I can honestly say they get so much love from all staff and they just care for them as I would myself.

Jester’s Story by our Buddies

Jester is a Shih Tzu, who came into the kennels not letting any of us go near him, he came in a couple of times for a short amount of time, eventually he became more comfortable, with Katie at first, then he began to trust the rest of the buddy team.

Now he is completely familiar with the kennels and all the buddies and enjoys his holidays with us, and his new made friends.

It is planned to make regular updates to this news page …So watch this space!
